Finally, the Society for Freshwater Science Diatom Taxonomic Certification Committee is developing educational materials and certification exams to support practitioner training and to increase the diatom research knowledge base. These practices include adoption of the voucher floras, random sample assignment, replicate microscope slides, and improved quality control. Several resources improve diatom data quality, including a publicly accessible taxonomic reference () and recommended practices. However, robust resources and practices are available to improve diatom data quality and interpretation. Problems are the result of (1) limited access to a common set of taxonomic references, especially those that are geographically relevant, (2) inefficient enumeration protocols, (3) lack of complete and transparent documentation of taxa, and (4) limited opportunities for continued education, training, and knowledge sharing. Specifically, inconsistent taxonomy can obscure diatom responses to environmental variables. This study is part of a broader effort to improve and encourage taxonomic consistency in federal, state and local programs by accessible identification resources and inter-lab comparisonsĮnvironmental programs in the United States face technical challenges that inhibit the ability to use diatoms in water quality monitoring and assessment projects. Taxonomic vouchers from federal programs have generally not been made public, yet they are a salient element of a well-documented species dataset, particularly for long-term studies. We define “voucher flora” as images of specimens and the names applied to those specimens for a given project. This manuscript documents the flora with light micrographs of specimens representative of their morphologic range. More than 375 taxa were identified during analysis for species composition and abundance. Algal samples were collected at 108 sites in 2014, from streams representing gradients in chemical and physical alteration across the southeast region. The SESQA study included measurement of watershed and water quality parameters to determine the factors that have the greatest potential to alter biotic condition. Geological Survey Southeast Stream Quality Assessment (SESQA). As always, we encourage consumers to perform their own research, to the extent possible, before hiring any business. This flora is intended to serve as an image voucher for samples analyzed for the U.S. As affected government agencies and courts begin to re-open, we will resume our program in those jurisdictions. Please be advised that, during this period, if we could not perform a background check, HomeAdvisor will allow the business into the network and match the business to consumers. While HomeAdvisor will continue its background check program to the extent possible, these closures could prevent some background checks from being performed. How is COVID-19 impacting the HomeAdvisor background check program?ĭue to the coronavirus pandemic, several government agencies and courts across the country have temporarily closed their offices. After initial admission to the HomeAdvisor network, businesses are re-screened biennially.

Please be aware that the reporting in the NCD is particularly limited in the following states: AL, CO, DE, GA, ID, IL, KS, LA, ME, MA, MI, MS, MT, NE, NV, NH, NM, SD, UT, VA, VT, and WY. *The comprehensiveness of the NCD varies by state. Our background check does not exclude service professionals unless the crime at issue is a felony.

We use a third-party vendor to conduct a criminal records search in the state in which the business owner or principal works. As always, we recommend that you conduct your own research on the businesses you hire, including making inquiries directly with the businesses regarding their employee background check policies. Unfortunately, we cannot perform a background check on every employee of a business-the background checks are performed only on the owner or principal. The owner or principal of each business in HomeAdvisor's network (with the exception of Corporate Accounts) must pass a background check.
